Sebring

We've been providing small-town, neighborly health care for over 60 years. And while we've always worked hard to bring you the most advanced technology, our efforts changed the face of health care in 1995 when we started building Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center. It allows us to deliver a level of service never before known in the Heartland.

Opened in November 1997, our 230,000 square-foot, three-story medical center includes a comprehensive fitness center, a community education center, and a resource and information library. And the 86-acre site gives our campus plenty of room to grow.

The new facility houses the area's largest hospital-based laboratory and radiology services plus comprehensive diagnostic and treatment facilities. All of our 159 beds are in private rooms. In fact, every service has been carefully planned with comfort, convenience and quality care in mind.

  • 12-bed intensive care/cardiac care unit
  • 11 beautifully decorated birthing suites
  • 12-bed pediatric unit with playroom
  • 4 surgical suites with microsurgery and laser capabilities
  • Two endoscopy rooms, a cystoscopy room and a special procedures room
  • State-of-the-art emergency department with additional "Fast Track" care for life's not-so-emergent emergencies
  • CT scanner, MRI, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, among other diagnostic and treatment facilities
  • Comprehensive fitness center, including stroke and cardiac rehabilitation, and fitness trail
  • Cardiac Catheterization Lab
  • A community education center and library, offering free and low-cost community classes, screenings and a resource information library

Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center's site is seven miles south of Florida Hospital Walker Memorial, our facility that first changed the face of health care in Highlands County in 1948.

Lake Placid

Florida Hospital Lake Placid opened in 1982, offering emergency and outpatient services. Inpatient services were added in 1989 to further meet the needs of residents in South Highlands County.

A major renovation project was started in 2000. Phase I of this project included the addition of a new 10-bed ICU and conversion of the remaining inpatient beds to private rooms. Phase II, completed in 2001, centered on the expansion of the Emergency Department to 10 private rooms and a complete renovation and remodeling of the entrance and building facade--completely transforming the look and feel of the admitting areas and waiting rooms.

Florida Hospital Lake Placid houses 33 medical and surgical beds, the county's only 17 bed inpatient mental health unit, an outpatient counseling center, and a wide range of services that are highly sophisticated for a small community hospital.

Wauchula

Licensed for 25 beds, the Wauchula facility specializes in emergency and outpatient care, while offering excellent medical inpatient services. The inpatient unit is mixed with both acutely ill patients and patients who need short-term rehabilitation (transitional care).

Florida Hospital Wauchula filled the void created when Hardee County's only hospital closed in 1992. To meet the most critical needs first, our emergency and outpatient departments opened in July of 1993. Since that time, additional physicians have been recruited, and hospital services have expanded.

Florida Hospital Wauchula became the first Critical Access Hospital in the State of Florida in the year 2000. This change made it possible to enhance the services provided here.

Our transitional care unit in Wauchula is a vital link in the chain of patient care. This unit bridges the gap between the high-level supervision of an acute-care nursing unit and the less-intensive care of home health care.

In 2004, the addition of a hospitalist to the Wauchula facility further enhanced the patient care. The hospitalist is a full-time physician who works for the hospital and can make visits to the patients any time during the day. In a small community with limited physician resources, this addition to the hospital staff allows the phsycians in the area to admit their patients to the hospital and know that a doctor is on-site to take care of their needs if they can't be there.
