Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is defined as a treatment modality that exposes a patient to 100 percent oxygen at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. This new technology increases oxygen levels stimulating the formation of new capillaries on poorly perfused wounds, providing a highly useful adjunctive treatment modality for the treatment of chronic non-healing wounds and certain infectious processes. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been utilized in the United States for over thirty years. The Center for Medicare Services recently approved a new indication for diabetic patients with certain lower extremity wounds.
